The PSFA local level training program is meant to address reasonable access to essential and select advanced courses in preparing the Commonwealth’s fire/rescue personnel. In this endeavor, several Educational Training Agencies (ETA) and county-based fire schools assist in this effort; equally, the local level system provides courses delivered at local fire stations. However, live fire training (i.e., ELIF or SBS) is essentially non-existent locally other than use of an acquired structure or other designated fixed facility. To complete a live training course, students have limited options which include a) travel to an ETA with approved fixed burn facilities or to a fire department-based approved facility; b) use a county-based fire school or academy; or c) utilize an acquired structure (which encumbers substantive challenges). To address the local need, use of a mobile live fire training prop is a reasonable option. Thus, use of the MLFTP is being employed and meant to address those areas of the Commonwealth whereby fire/rescue students do not have reasonable access to PSFA approved live fire training facilities.
