Bucks Basic Fire Academy FSC: 0913 Hours: 112.0 (Lecture: 54.5hrs / Lab: 57.5hrs) Prerequisites: Age 14 and up Description: Through classroom sessions and practical fieldwork, this course will give the recruit/new firefighter the ability to function safely and effectively as a member of a fire suppression organization. This program is designed to follow the NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, for Fire Fighter 1.
Hazardous Materials Awareness (HMA) FSC: 2114 Hours: 6.0 (Lecture: 6.0hrs / Lab: 0.0hrs) Prerequisites: Age 14 and up Description: This course will provide instruction in the basic skills of identifying hazardous material problems in a community. The student will learn to recognize the presence of hazardous materials and identify hazardous materials, as well as learn the associated hazard characteristics.
Hazardous Materials Operations (HMO) FSC: 2472 Hours: 32.0 (Lecture: 24.0hrs / Lab: 12.0hrs) Prerequisites: Age 16 and up, Hazardous Materials Awareness Description: The goal of this program is to provide the First Responder with the training needed to comply with NFPA 472 Chapter 5 Competencies for the First Responder at the Operational Level, and 29 CFR 1910.120 OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response, (HAZWOPER), First Responder Operations Level. This program is designed to give the first responder the necessary skills to handle hazardous materials emergencies. After successfully completing this course you would be eligible to take the national certification testing for national certification in Hazardous Materials Operations Level.
CPR / First Aid Requirement The attached is a list of approved courses that meet the requirement of CPR and First Aid for Certification and other Courses. This list is taken from approved PA Department of Health and PA State Fire Academy approved and recognized courses. Each candidate MUST show, at minimum, an approved CPR/AED card/certificate AND an approved emergency medical training card/certificate that includes the candidates name, issue date, expiration date, and level. A cognitive and skills assessment for both the CPR and First Aid training courses MUST be completed as part of your course, including ALL written exams or optional written exams if applicable.
