Vehicle Rescuer Common Passenger at the Awareness, Operations & Technician Level – NFPA 1006

FSC: 1420 (Training) Hours: 40.0 (Lecture: 16.0hrs / Lab: 24.0hrs) FSC: 1421 (Testing) Hours: 8.0

Prerequisites: Awareness 24 Prerequisites: Participants entering the program MUST be at least 16 years of age by the first day of class, have completed the FEMA’s NIMS 100 & 700, a HAZMAT Awareness course, and at least four hours of training in a recognized Traffic Incident Management (TIM) course.

Operations 24 Participants entering the program MUST have completed the Passenger Vehicle Rescue Awareness-24 course, current first aid or EMS Provider certification, current CPR, and an approved Pennsylvania State Fire Academy (PSFA) HAZMAT Operations course. Participants who completed an NVRA program since 2015 are eligible for entry into this course.

Technician 24 Participants entering the program MUST have completed Passenger Vehicle Rescue Operations-24, possess current first aid or EMS Provider certification, current CPR. Participants who completed an NVRA or NVRO program since 2015 are eligible for entry into this course.

Gear: TOG, or Extrication Gear, Eye Protection.

Description: This program is designed to enhance the student’s ability to perform critical skills sets in the field of technical rescue for incidents involving common passenger vehicles. During this course, students will review scene safety and size up strategies, apply the phases of extrication, vehicle extrication principles and theories, stabilization and extrication techniques, basic patient care and packaging techniques, and managing incident challenges to accurately and safely execute the skill sets required for safe and effective patient extrication. Topics include size-up, scene management, hazard identification and control, stabilization, gaining access, tool selection and operation, patient packaging and extrication, and termination in accordance with NFPA 1006 and 1670. This course is designed for students with a working knowledge of emergency response. This course is designed to prepare a candidate for professional certification testing (written and skills) in accordance with NFPA 1006 Common Passenger Vehicle Technical Rescuer Awareness, Operations, and Technician Levels.
