Minimum Age: 16 years of age

Prerequisites:
* Non-Expired CPR
* Non-Expired First Aid (or higher level of Emergency Medical Provider)
* Hazardous Materials Awareness Level Professional Certification (IFSAC and/or ProBoard)

* Vehicle Rescue and Extrication: Principles and Practice, Revised Second Edition, Jones & Bartlett

Required Equipment:
* Extrication Jumpsuit or Firefighting TOG, Helmet with Chin Strap, Eye Protection, Work boots, and leather or extrication gloves

Course Description: This program is designed to enhance the student's ability to perform critical skill sets in the field of technical rescue for incidents involving common passenger vehicles. During this course, students will review scene safety and size-up strategies, apply the phases of extrication, vehicle extrication principles and theories, stabilization and extrication techniques, basic patient care and packaging techniques, and manage incident challenges to accurately and safely execute the skill sets required for safe and effective patient extrication. Topics include: size-up, scene management, hazard identification and control, stabilization, gaining access, tool selection and operation, patient packaging and extrication, and termination in accordance with NFPA 1006 and 1670. This course is designed for students with a working knowledge of emergency response. This course is designed to prepare a candidate for professional certification testing (written and skills) in accordance with NFPA 1006 Common Passenger Vehicle Technical Rescuer Awareness, Operations, and Technician Levels.
