Prerequisites:
• Hazardous Materials Operations Level (NFPA 472) Professional Certification OR Hazardous Materials Core Operational Level (NFPA 472) Professional Certification OR Hazardous Materials Core Operational Level (NFPA 1072) Professional Certification

This is an advanced course which will give the student the ability to function safely and effectively as an Incident Commander in an area exposed to a hazardous material release to meet the requirements defined by 29 CFR 1910.120. Subjects to be covered include site safety procedures, personal protective equipment selection, containment techniques, response strategies, decontamination selection and strategies, incident management system, and skills evaluation through integrated exercises. This course is tested to NFPA 1072 Standard, to the Hazardous Materials Incident Commander Level through the ProBoard. Successful completion of the program requires proficiency demonstration in written/delivery practical skills and a multiple-choice examination.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, the student shall be able to:
• Identify the presence of hazardous materials and their associated hazards.
• Identify the various types of hazardous atmospheres associated with chemical exposures.
• Identify strategic goals and tactical objectives as they relate to the incident or work environment.
• Identify toxicology concerns and their effect(s) on the body.
• Establish and operate within an Incident Management System.
• Develop an Incident Action Plan and implement that plan in a simulated exercise.
• Conduct briefing, debriefing, and termination procedures during a simulated response
• Execute atmospheric testing strategies in an environment involved with a hazardous material exposure.
• Execute decontamination strategies for entry personnel and contaminated patient(s).
• Identify the procedures used to terminate the response activities associated with the incident or work environment.
• Identify the procedures used to brief a response team on response strategies and objectives associated with the incident or work environment.
• Identify the procedures used to debrief a response team on the strengths, weaknesses and lessons learned associated with the incident or work environment.
• Act as a member of a rescue team, the student will perform command/management activities during controlled integrated exercises.
