Course Description: Provide training for first responders that respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property, and the environment. Personnel are trained to respond in a defensive fashion to contain the release from a safe distance, to keep it from spreading, and prevent exposures. They must understand basic hazard and risk assessment, how to select and use proper personnel protective equipment, basic hazardous materials terms, basic control, containment and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available, and basic decontamination procedures and termination procedures. 

The goal of this program is to provide the emergency responder with the training needed to comply with First Responder Operations Level training identified in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 470 - 2022 edition, professional qualifications standard. This course will meet the requirements for annual review under 29 CFR 1910.120 and the educational requirements of NFPA 470 standard to the Operations Level (Chapter 7), Personal Protective Equipment (Chapter 9.2), and Product Control (Chapter 9.6) for ProBoard Testing.

FSC-0103 - Hazardous Materials Operations Practical Skills Certification Challenge

Minimum Age: 16 years of age

Prerequisites:
* Hazardous Materials Awareness Professional Certification (IFSAC and/or ProBoard)
* Hazardous Materials Operation Training

Required Text:
* Hazardous Materials for First Responders, 6th Edition, International Fire Service Training Association; Oklahoma.
* Emergency Response Guide (ERG), Current Edition, U.S. Department of Transportation

Required Equipment:
* Turn out Gear and SCBA with spare cylinder

Course Description: This program designed to test the students' skills in practical exercises so that they will receive professional certification upon completion of the program, if they successfully meet the minimum requirements of testing. All testing is based on current NFPA standard for Hazardous Materials Operations. Students should possess prerequisite knowledge of hazardous materials skills obtained though previous training and real-life experience.

FSC-0978 - Hazardous Materials Operations Written Examination Certification Challenge (NFPA 1072)

Minimum Age: 16 years of age

Prerequisites:
* Hazardous Materials Awareness Level in accordance with NFPA 1072 or NFPA 470, through IFSAC or ProBoard.
* Hazardous Materials Operations Training

Course Description: This program is designed to evaluate the student's cognitive knowledge to receive professional certification upon 
completion of the program if they successfully meet the minimum requirements and the psychomotor skills (tested separately). This examination measures the candidate's knowledge at the Hazardous Materials Operations Core, Personal Protective Equipment, and Product Control Mission Specific Competencies and will follow guidelines set forth in accordance with the policies and procedures of Bucks County Community College's Accreditation. Testing is based on current NFPA 470 Standard through the ProBoard.
