Hazardous Materials Awareness (HMA24)

Prerequisites:
* None

Required Text:
* Hazardous Materials for First Responders, 6th Edition, International Fire Service Training Association; Oklahoma.
* Emergency Response Guide, Current Edition, United State Department of Transportation 

Required Equipment:
* Pen/Pencil & Notebook
* Computer with audio/video capability (for Virtual Classes)
* Internet Access (for Virtual Classes)

Course Description: The primary target audiences for this course are the First Responders (fire, rescue, emergency medical, police, etc.) who will witness or discover a hazardous substance/materials release or a terrorist/criminal incident. Students will be trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the incident. They shall have sufficient training or have had sufficient experience to objectively demonstrate competency to understand what hazardous substances are, the risks, potential outcomes, the ability to recognize and identify their presence, their role, including site security, safe scene management and how to use the U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) Emergency Response Guidebook during a hazardous materials/WMD or a terrorist/criminal emergency. This course will meet the requirements for annual review under 29 CFR 1910.120 and the educational requirements of NFPA 470 standard to the Awareness Level.

FSC-0917 - Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification Challenge (NFPA 1072)

* Computer with audio/video capability and internet access

Course Description: This examination measures the student's skills at the Hazardous Materials Awareness Level and will follow guidelines 
set forth in accordance with the policies and procedures of Bucks County Community College's Accreditation. Testing is based on current NFPA 4702 Standard, to the Hazardous Materials / WMD Awareness Level through the ProBoard.
